Dear Honored Guest,

Thank you for reading these few words about gang violence. It seems that we are hearing a lot in the media recently about gang violence, and that is why we are writing this newsletter. We have asked a question of gang members for many years. This question is, “ why don’t you get along with each other”? The overwhelming answer is, “yall don’t get along “.

(I will digress for a minute for I know that some of you that receive our G.A.N.G. newsletter are going to become PARTNERS in our mission to save our youth and I want to take advantage of the opportunity to share some insight with you. Lesson #1-do not lie to the youth. Lesson #2-do not be afraid to ask questions if you do not understand.)

My response was, “ what do you mean that we don’t get along”? The almost unanimous response is you Christians, Muslims and Jews don’t get along, blacks and whites don’t get along, rich and poor don’t get along, the educated look down on us that don’t have education, people with nice cars look down on us that drive “ hoop-tees”, people that live in nice houses look down on us that live in the hood.

I would call that a mouthful! And that also becomes our agenda! I digress for another teachable moment! I have been on many, many boards over the years. I have been on boards with law enforcement and I have been boards with gang leaders. I have been on religious boards and I have been on secular boards. I have been on boards with politicians and I have been on community boards. I have been on boards with whites and I have been on boards with blacks and I have observed over and over again a common thread.

That common thread is everyone uses the language, us and them. That has become the agenda for the whole world…..us and them. Our language defines who we are and what we do. Look up the meaning of both words and study the meanings. US is acceptable and brings things together with love and respect. THEM speaks for itself and something that we do not want to be a part of.

HOMEWORK!!!

  • DO NOT THINK THEM!

  • DO NOT SAY THEM!

  • SAY- THE FAMILY OF US IS THE HUMAN FAMILY, THAT’S MY FAMILY!
